We all know how great it feels to live an active lifestyle (for those who don’t, take our word for it). However, we all have those days where the idea of getting up, putting our workout clothes on and heading to the gym seems like the toughest thing to do.

Whether you go to the gym regularly or are just starting to get into your fitness routine, staying motivated isn’t always easy. That’s why we at 24/7 Fitness decided to put together these tips to help you get and stay motivated for the gym.

  1. Find a gym buddy

Having a gym buddy is a great way to stay motivated for the gym for various reasons. Training with someone makes the session more fun, and it’ll make you a little bit competitive, which can help you push yourself that little bit harder. But most importantly, it will help you stay accountable because you’ll be less likely to let that other person down and flake on your gym session.

  1. Pump up the music

If you need help getting into the zone, then pop your earphones in and hit play on a killer workout playlist. This is an easy way to help make the time pass by quickly – before you know it, your workout will be done, and you’ll be on your way home.

  1. Track your progress

One of the best ways to stay motivated on your fitness journey is to track your progress. For example, it might be easy to forget that when you started gyming two weeks ago, you couldn’t do more than 10 minutes on the treadmill, and now you can run for 30 minutes without breaking a sweat.

Or perhaps you couldn’t lift more than 2kgs when you started doing bicep curls, and now 4kgs feels like nothing. However, if you use an app to track these changes, you’ll easily be able to see how far you’ve come.

  1. Try something new

We all know how monotonous a routine can become. If you find that you’re getting bored doing the same thing at the gym, then try to change things up. If you’re into weight training, try to go for a swim. If you’re used to training on your own, why not try a fun gym class, like cycling, HIIT or Pilates? This will certainly make things more exciting, which will likely motivate you to get back into your gym routine.

  1. Put those workout clothes on

Sometimes, simply getting up and putting on your exercise clothes is the hardest part. However, once you’ve successfully done this, things will likely snowball, and you’ll find it easier to get yourself out the door and head to the gym.

  1. Go to the gym first thing

For some people, the hassle with the gym is that you don’t feel like having to leave the house again after a long day of work. However, if you can get yourself up just one hour earlier in the morning and go to the gym, then your workout will already be done. The added benefit of this is that exercising early in the morning will actually leave you energised and ready to take on the day.

  1. Get a fitness trainer

As we mentioned before, having a training buddy alone can serve as sufficient gym motivation. However, you’re likely to hold yourself even more accountable if you have to meet your trainer at the gym – plus, you’ll be paying for it and won’t want to waste the money. A trainer can also help you develop and stick to a training schedule, which will help you to reach your goals.

Motivated to head to the gym yet?

Whether you are new to gyming or have been training on and off for years, staying motivated with your gym routine can be tough – in fact, it’s pretty normal! However, there are many easy things you can do to help shake things up and get yourself motivated for the gym.
