Hey Discount has analyzed the number of TikTok views, Instagram hashtags and Google searches to discover the biggest beauty trends of 2022.

A new study conducted by Hey Discount has analyzed the number of TikTok views, Instagram hashtags and Google searches to discover the biggest beauty trends of 2022 so far.

Beauty trends this year were dominated by skincare and experimenting with makeup looks. Moving away from harsh scented products, the top skincare trends of this year include SPF, glass skin and ceramides.

Popular makeup trends like glitter lips and faux freckles are also popular this year, ranking among the top 20 hottest trends.

Here are the most popular beauty trends of 2022 based on the study:

1. Retinol

2022 is all about skincare and retinol is the most popular trend according to Instagram, TikTok and Google searches. While vitamin A derivatives have been used for decades, the popularity of retinoids has risen recently and retinol can be found in many serums and creams.

The ingredient works differently for everyone, but benefits include the reduction of fine lines, improved collagen production, blemishes reduction and the correction of pigmentation issues.

Hey Discount found 1.2 billion TikTok views under the hashtag #retinol and 635,767 Instagram posts with the same tag.

2. Graphic Liner

Consumers are leaving basic winged eyeliner in 2021, as eyeliner trends from the sixties and eighties make a comeback. One of the most popular beauty trends online, graphic liner has been worn by celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Kylie Jenner and Barbie Ferreira.

Graphic liner is perfect for beginners, focusing on creativity and unique designs over a perfectly symmetrical cat-eye look.

There are one billion TikTok views for the hashtag #graphicliner and 655,325 Instagram posts under the same tag.

3. Gua sha

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicinal practice, meaning ‘to scrape’ and activate ‘redness of the skin’ which is often used to treat chronic pain, reduce puffiness and aid lymphatic drainage.

The first recorded uses of gua sha took place during the Ming dynasty – China’s ruling dynasty from 1368 to 1644, and in Asia, this healing treatment has been practiced by many people daily for centuries. Although, it has only recently become a popular trend worldwide thanks to its popularity on social media.
